Dear Friends,
I AM PROUD TO ANNOUNCE THE PUBLICATION OF MY BOOK,
“A SIMPLE GIRL: STORIES MY GRANDMOTHER TOLD ME.”
“A Simple Girl” is the classic rags to riches story of a woman who truly represents the American Dream. It also examines the relationship and bond between a ninety year-old woman, and a twenty-three year-old boy, the truly special relationship that few grandmothers and grandchildren share. Edith Flagg, my grandmother, is a survivor of the Holocaust and was an active member of the Dutch Underground Forces. This group was instrumental in saving hundreds of lives from the Nazi regime during World War II. Having survived the horrible atrocities of the war, Flagg, a single mother, immigrated to the United States with only $5.00 in her pocket. With this small amount of money, Flagg created a multi-million dollar clothing business. One of her many career highlights included introducing polyester to the United States.
I started writing this book ten years ago, right around the time of my Bar Mitzvah. For years my grandmother and I traveled around the world together, and as we reached new destinations she revealed things to me about her very remarkable life.
Many of you know my grandmother as the four foot eleven inch woman always sitting at the restaurant counter at Neiman Marcus having a cup of soup. Or, you might know her as the little woman with the huge sunglasses who walks every day up and down Canon Drive in Beverly Hills. But few actually know the story behind this fascinating woman, a woman who has selflessly given back to the
community for the past sixty years.
The writing of this book has been documented on the television series “Million Dollar Listing.” The show follows me, as a Beverly Hills real-estate broker, selling high-end homes in Beverly Hills. It also includes footage of Edith and me traveling through Europe to see the places she lived and worked during the war. The third season of the show will air Monday night, October 12th at 11pm on BRAVO.
